Welcome to Creative Embodiment

My journey into somatic practice began through my own experience of burnout, chronic stress, and learning how deeply our nervous systems influence the way we think, feel, relate, and move through life.

What started as a personal search for answers became a professional calling when I discovered the growing body of research connecting stress, trauma, nervous system dysregulation, mental health, and physical wellbeing.

As a Qualified Trauma-Informed Integrative Somatic Facilitator, I support people to better understand their nervous system, build awareness of their body's signals, and develop practical tools for regulation, resilience, and self-trust.

My approach combines nervous system education, somatic practices, and evidence-informed understanding of how our experiences shape our bodies, beliefs, behaviours, and relationships. Rather than focusing on fixing what's wrong, we work together to understand the adaptations your body has made in response to life's challenges and strengthen your capacity to navigate them differently.

I also hold a strong sense of justice and recognise that many of the struggles people face are not simply individual problems. We live within families, communities, workplaces, schools, and systems that often ask us to fit narrow expectations while overlooking our unique needs, experiences, and ways of being. Sometimes the distress we carry makes perfect sense in the environments we have had to adapt to.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me enjoying the simple things in life—walking my dogs, watching the sunrise, breathing in the smell of the ocean, baking, spending time with friends and family, or finding creative outlets that bring a sense of joy and connection. These everyday moments remind me that wellbeing isn't something we achieve; it's something we practise.

At the heart of Creative Embodiment is the belief that you are not broken. Your body has been adapting to your experiences for a reason. When we learn to understand those adaptations with curiosity rather than judgement, new possibilities emerge.

Ngā mihi,

Lauren Albans

P.S. The podcasts, articles, books, and resources below have had a profound impact on my own journey and may offer valuable insights for yours too.

What to Expect in a Somatic Session

A somatic session is not about "fixing" you, forcing emotional releases, or uncovering trauma memories. It is about helping your nervous system learn new patterns of safety, connection, and resilience.

Many people come to therapy wanting to get rid of anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or old trauma responses. While these experiences can shift over time, healing is rarely a one-session "release" or magic pill. Lasting change happens through gentle, consistent experiences that help your brain and body update old predictions and associations that may no longer serve you.

Together, we begin by building an understanding of your nervous system and how it relates to your unique experiences.

This process, often called neuroeducation, helps explain why you might react, think, feel, or behave in certain ways. Research shows that simply understanding how the nervous system works can reduce stress and increase a sense of self-compassion and control.

Our work combines both "top-down" and "bottom-up" approaches. Top-down approaches involve understanding, awareness, and reflection. Bottom-up approaches involve paying attention to the body's sensations, movements, impulses, and nervous system responses. When these two approaches are integrated, the brain and body can begin working together rather than feeling disconnected from one another.

Throughout the session, I guide you through a trauma-sensitive framework that helps you build interoception, the ability to notice and understand what is happening inside your body. This may include awareness of sensations, emotions, tension patterns, breathing, movement, or other bodily cues.

As your awareness grows, your nervous system has opportunities to update old patterns and create new pathways through neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to change and adapt throughout life. Rather than pushing for cathartic releases, we focus on creating experiences that are manageable, resourcing, and sustainable.

The relationship itself is also an important part of the process. A regulated, attuned nervous system can help support another nervous system in finding greater regulation and safety. My role is to walk alongside you, offering education, practical tools, and gentle guidance as you learn to reconnect with your body's wisdom and capacity for healing.

Each session is tailored to your needs, pace, and goals. The aim is not to become someone different, but to help you feel more connected to yourself, more resilient in the face of life's challenges, and more able to respond rather than react.

Registration – Complete a form, which you can find here so I can learn about your goals and needs. Together we’ll arrange your first consultation, either online or in person. If I feel another service might be a better fit, I’ll refer you.

Initial Consultation (1–2 hrs $150-200 ) – We begin with a conversation about the nervous system and stress responses, then explore grounding tools (what I call Base Camp). These resources help your system feel safe before moving into deeper healing. A Vagal Flow massage or Reiki can be added for $50.

Follow-Up Sessions (1 hr $50-100 tiered pricing) – Book when ready. Each session builds on your nervous system capacity and integration and release of blockages stored within the body. Learn about tiered pricing here

Up coming offerings

I’ve had many massages over the years, truly, so many  and I can say hand on heart that what Lauren offers through her vagal flow head massage and myofascial massage is life-changing.From the moment I stepped into her care, I felt safe, calm, and deeply held. My nervous system finally had space to soften, reset, and do what it’s meant to do, rest, release, and regulate. It wasn’t just relaxing,  it felt like a part of me that had been waiting a long time to exhale was finally given permission.

My daughter has also been seeing Lauren, and I’m so grateful. As a māmā and a holistic practitioner myself, I know how important nervous system support is, especially for our rangatahi. And yet, sometimes it’s hard for them to receive from us as parents. Lauren has provided that beautiful bridge of care.
Lauren also gave us beautiful tools to take home and continue the awhi outside the session.
This isn’t just massage,  this is embodiment, healing, and care at its finest.
Ngā mihi nui Lauren,  thank you for all that you are and all that you give.

"Laurens offerings are truly beautiful.Every time she creates a space that feels safe, welcoming, and a pleasure to join. She leads with the beautiful knowledge she has gained, and a warm, kind and genuine heart. I highly recommend Creative Embodiment to anyone interested."

As someone with ADHD who also coach’s others with ADHD, the resources and tools I gained from the Equilibrium program have been invaluable. Emotional regulation and nervous system management can be particularly challenging for those with ADHD, and I’m excited to share these techniques with my clients. Lauren’s calm, heart-centered approach created a truly inclusive space that valued everyone’s unique needs and preferences.

If you’re considering Equilibrium, give yourself the gift of attending this course, it’s an experience that will enrich your life in meaningful ways.
